By trading away D.J during the offseason, the Panthers mortgaged their near future.
In exchange for the first overall pick in 2023, Moore and a second round pick in 2025 were selected.
They are undoubtedly attempting to recoup some of that trade compensation they lost now that it is becoming clear that the team may be further away from being a successful football team than first believed.
We have seen two straight off-seasons where the Packers were involved in what is arguably the biggest trade in the league (Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers).
The Packers have been linked to Brian Burns in the past; as the trade deadline draws near, could they actually pull the trigger on a massive trade?
They are obviously not hesitant to take a risky action.
It would be surprising to see the team spend more draft capital at that position given that Rashan Gary is expected to be re-signed and that they already invested a first-round pick in a pass rusher (Lukas Van Ness) in 2023.
Jeremy Chinn, a safety, is another player to whom the Packers have been linked.
The team might be able to engage in this trade because it would be less expensive.
The Packers’ share of his contract in 2023, if he were traded, would be just $1.62 million.
He does not have a contract beyond this one, so Brian Gutekunst, Russ Ball, and Jeremy Chinn would have to work out a new one.
Apparently, the Panthers are willing to trade Chinn, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
The Packers’ defense would benefit greatly from this potential simple replacement trade.
