JETBLUE TO GIVE BLUE BASIC FARERS FREE CARRY-ON

DALLAS — Starting September 6, customers with JetBlue’s (B6) Blue Basic fare will receive a free carry-on bag, in addition to their small personal item, regardless of when they purchased their ticket.

The Long island-based airline explains, “Previously, customers who wished to bring a carry-on bag would need to purchase one of JetBlue’s other fare options or purchase an Even More Space seat.”

The free carry-on bag to be included in the carrier’s basic economy fare complements free Wi-Fi, the most legroom in coach, which B6 says is based on average fleet-wide seat pitch for U.S. airlines, unlimited snacks and drinks, and seatback entertainment at every seat.

The airline did note that while many of its aircraft are “outfitted with larger overhead bins to accommodate more customers, in the event of space constraints, customers may be required to check carry-on bags at the gate for no additional charge.”

Additionally, customers who want to board earlier to use overhead bin space can purchase the more flexible Blue fare (B6’s second lowest fare), which includes advanced seat selection, no cancellation or change fees and general boarding.

“Carry-on bags are an important part of travel to customers, and when presented with a choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another carrier’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner,” said Marty St. George, president, JetBlue.

“We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences. This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry.”
