Nathan Chen, the Olympic figure skating champion, recently shared his thoughts on fellow athletes Simone Biles, Mondo Duplantis, and Hanyu Yuzuru, as well as the retirement of his Japanese rival, Uno Shoma. Chen expressed admiration for Biles, noting her resilience and ability to push the boundaries of gymnastics. He acknowledged the immense pressure she faces and praised her for prioritizing her mental health, something he believes all athletes can learn from.

When discussing Mondo Duplantis, the world record-holding pole vaulter, Chen marveled at his extraordinary talent and dedication to the sport. He compared Duplantis’s achievements to the pinnacle of what an athlete can accomplish, emphasizing the importance of setting new standards and continually striving for greatness.

Hanyu Yuzuru, another prominent figure in figure skating, was also on Chen’s mind. He expressed deep respect for Hanyu’s influence on the sport, particularly his artistry and technical prowess. Chen revealed that Hanyu’s legacy has inspired him to elevate his own performances, pushing the limits of what’s possible on the ice.

The retirement of Uno Shoma, Chen’s long-time competitor, brought mixed emotions. While Chen acknowledged the loss of a formidable rival, he also expressed happiness for Uno as he steps into the next chapter of his life. Chen noted that Uno’s departure marks the end of an era in figure skating but also opens new opportunities for the next generation of skaters.

As for his own future, Chen hinted at exploring life beyond figure skating, stating, “I’m seeing where else life takes me,” while remaining open to whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead.
