After tearing his Achilles tendon during the New York Jets’ season-opening game, Aaron Rodgers was predicted to be out for the entire 2023 season.
The talented quarterback appears to be following a very different schedule.
Strong indications have been given by Rodgers that he intends to play again in the 2023 postseason.
Rodgers’ innovative and exceptional surgery to repair his Achilles last week is what has him feeling upbeat.
According to a report, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache completed a novel procedure intended to “accelerate the normal rehabilitation process from such an injury.”.
To hasten the healing and recovery process, an internal brace (referred to as a “speed bridge”) is placed on the torn Achilles during the procedure.
According to the report, the new procedure could shorten the recovery period from the common season-ending Achilles rupture to as little as four months.
Rodgers could make a comeback in the middle of January if that timeline held.
Rodgers is speaking optimistically because of the procedure and the potential for an accelerated return to play.
“There are many different viewpoints regarding the overall length of the rehabilitation.
On Friday, Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show,” “I think what I’d like to say is, just because it hasn’t been done in a certain way doesn’t mean it isn’t possible.
“I do have some disadvantages because of my age, but I like it.
Put all the adversity in my favor and watch what happens.
My entire attention and commitment are devoted to learning as much as I can and adding to the pretty solid rehab plan I’ve already created, which will, I believe, surprise some people.
“.
The success of the new method is not guaranteed.
One factor that might make any rehabilitation difficult is Rodgers’ advanced age—he will turn 40 in December.
Furthermore, there would be no reason for Rodgers to return if the Jets are not competing for a playoff spot by the end of the season.
During Sunday’s 30-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Zach Wilson started at quarterback for the Jets.
Wilson had three interceptions during the contest and didn’t seem to have improved from his first two seasons.
The Jets probably won’t have to make any preparations for Rodgers’ return in 2023 if they don’t sign another quarterback.
