Marcus Davenport, an edge rusher for the Minnesota Vikings, suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 6 and was added to the team’s injured reserve (IR) list on Wednesday following additional testing.
Davenport will have to remain inactive for a minimum of four weeks while remaining on the list.
The earliest he can return is Week 11, though he might be out for longer.

At the beginning of the season, Davenport suffered an injury to his other ankle.
Before making his official debut in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers, he only took part in four snaps across the first three games.
On the field, his influence was obvious.
Against the Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs, Davenport recorded a sack, four quarterback hits, and seven total pressures.
With Davenport back, the pass rush significantly improved, relieving Danielle Hunter of having to frequently deal with double teams.

Marcus Davenport’s Potential Signing by the Vikings Appears Dim.
Davenport was the Vikings’ prized free-agent acquisition during the offseason.
After five seasons with the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota agreed to a one-year, up to $13 million contract with Davenport, giving the 27-year-old a chance to establish his value.
The Vikings wagered that Davenport would play effectively.
According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), his 81.2 pass-rushing grade since the 2020 season’s start places him 22nd out of the 104 edge defenders who have played at least 500 pass-rushing snaps during that time. His 15% pressure rate places him eleventh.
Injury, though, has ruined his career.
Only once in his five years in the league has Davenport played 500 or more snaps in a single season.
On PFF’s free-agent big board, Davenport’s bio reads, “Injuries once again hampered Davenport’s season, but he’s a remarkably effective pass rusher off the edge when healthy, and his talent alone could be worth the gamble in free agency – especially given the relative lack of edge rushers available.”.
“Since he joined the league in 2018, Davenport has amassed top-20 marks among edge defenders in both pass-rush win rate (17.8%) and pressure percentage (13.9%), as well as a very respectable career grade of 82.1% in run-defense, which places him 16th overall over that time.
Davenport has run five consecutive campaigns that have received grades above 70. The problem is that he has yet to accumulate 600 snaps in a single season.
At the end of the day, top-20 edge defenders against the pass and run rarely become free agents, and despite his injury history being extensive, no devastating ligament tears have been reported on it.

Two Exciting Vikings Playmakers are Back.
The Vikings receive the return of two offensive players on Wednesday, which is good news.
