United Airlines flight to Dubai diverts to Athens after passenger death…

A United Airlines flight en route from Newark Liberty International Airport to Dubai was forced to divert to Athens International Airport following the death of a passenger mid-flight. The incident occurred on April 12, 2025, approximately six hours into the journey. Flight UA164, operated by a Boeing 777-200ER, was cruising over the Mediterranean Sea when a passenger reportedly suffered a medical emergency.

 

Despite immediate assistance from the flight crew and a medical professional on board, the passenger was pronounced dead. Given the circumstances, the flight crew decided to divert to Athens, where the aircraft landed safely at approximately 3:45 a.m. local time.

 

Upon arrival, Greek authorities boarded the aircraft to conduct standard procedures related to the passenger’s death. United Airlines provided support to the affected passenger’s family and arranged accommodations for other passengers during the delay. The airline expressed condolences and stated that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain their top priority.

 

The flight was rescheduled to continue to Dubai later that day. United Airlines is cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure all protocols are followed in handling the situation.
