The Green Bay Packers have activated safety Darnell Savage from injured reserve, potentially marking his return after a five-game absence, just in time for Sunday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Savage, who suffered a calf injury and last played on October 22 in a loss to Denver, practiced fully this week and was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
Savage’s return is expected to provide a significant boost to the Green Bay secondary, which has been grappling with multiple injuries. Safety Rudy Ford, dealing with biceps and groin injuries, has missed the last two games and remains questionable for Sunday night. Cornerback Jaire Alexander, sidelined for three consecutive games due to a shoulder injury, is also listed as questionable.
Cornerback Eric Stokes, recovering from a hamstring issue, has missed the last five games and is still on injured reserve, although he participated in limited practice this week.
Darnell Savage, 26, has played six games this season, making 33 tackles. Since being selected by the Packers with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 draft out of Maryland, he has accumulated 65 career starts.
In addition to Savage’s activation, the Packers have elevated fullback Henry Pearson and running back James Robinson from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the AFC West-leading Chiefs (8-3).
