The Green Bay Packers are no longer a potential trading partner for Taylor.

Posted on October 2, 2023

During cutdowns, Green Bay reportedly expressed interest in the running back.

Jonathan Taylor, the Indianapolis Colts’ disgruntled running back, will practice in Week 5 according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Sunday morning.

Beginning the season on the physically unable to perform list, Taylor is currently engaged in a contract dispute with the team.
When Taylor does step onto the practice field, he will have 21 days to work out with the team before the Colts must add him to their 53-man roster.

Additionally, according to the report, Taylor is “no longer in the mix” for a trade with the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers and Miami Dolphins contacted the Colts about possibly acquiring the running back, according to ESPN’s Stephen Holder, in the latter part of August.

The Packers’ lack of interest in signing the 2021 First-Team All-Pro was not explained, but it is safe to assume that it has something to do with compensation, be it monetary or otherwise. Taylor is seeking a long-term contract extension in the range of $14 million to $15 million per season, according to prior reports from Mike Jones of The Athletic. Holder likewise stated in August that the Colts desired a first-round pick in exchange for trading Taylor.

Green Bay’s inability to run the football since the start of these trade rumors has only fueled the desire of fans to see a Wisconsin Badgers legend return to the state.
Aaron Jones, the top running back, has already missed two games this year due to a hamstring injury.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, Jones’ hamstring injury kept him on a pitch count in Week 4’s game against the Detroit Lions.
In the Packers’ most recent game, Jones’ first carry occurred when the team was already trailing Detroit by three scores.

Jones’ replacement, AJ Dillon, who is playing on a contract season, hasn’t made much of his opportunities.

Dillon has carried the ball just 118 yards on 44 occasions over the course of four games this season (an average of 2 points and 7 yards per carry) without scoring a touchdown.

However, it appears that Taylor won’t be a Packer anytime soon unless Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst has a change of heart between now and the October 31st trade deadline.
