The Indianapolis Colts are looking to a well-known name in college football due to their sudden need at the quarterback position.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Colts have added quarterback Kellen Mond to their practice squad.
This week, Indianapolis worked out a number of seasoned signal callers, including Ian Book, Trace McSorley, and Holton Ahlers.
Mond was one of them.
The 24-year-old Mond was a four-year standout at Texas A&M.
He started every game for the Aggies during his four seasons there, and his best season was 2018 when he passed for 3,107 yards and 24 touchdowns.
As a senior in 2020, Mond also guided Texas A&M to a 9-1 record and a fourth-place finish in the final AP poll.
Following graduation, Mond was selected in the third round (No. by the Minnesota Vikings (66 overall).
However, Mond hasn’t had much action since then, making only one appearance for Minnesota (in 2021).
The Cleveland Browns signed him for the 2022 season after the Vikings released him, but he was released after that season without ever taking part in another game.
The Colts require more players to fill out the depth chart behind new starter Gardner Minshew because Anthony Richardson appears to be out for an extended period of time.
Sam Ehlinger, a former Texas quarterback, is still active, but Mond will soon be joining him in Indianapolis’ quarterback room.
