Nike did not cancel my deal – Tiger Woods Claims

By | December 18, 2023

Tiger Woods recently hinted at a potential resolution to the ongoing saga surrounding his long-standing partnership with Nike, suggesting that the $500 million sponsorship deal might be on the brink of termination. Despite swirling rumors, the golf legend affirmed that things remain steady, reaffirming his continued promotion of Nike merchandise.

For nearly three decades, Woods has been closely associated with the apparel company, but recent reports have hinted at a possible rift between the 47-year-old golf icon and Nike, even following his comeback to the golf circuit after an injury-induced hiatus.

Responding to inquiries from journalists at the PNC Championship, where he is competing alongside his son, Charlie – who’s showing promise as a future professional golfer – Woods reassured, “I’m still wearing their product.”

The chatter about a potential split mainly stems from Woods’ return to golf in 2022 post a life-threatening car crash in 2021. Notably, during the Augusta National event that year, he was spotted donning FootJoy shoes instead of Nike, a deviation from standard practice where athletes typically refrain from endorsing competing brands.

“I have very limited mobility now,” Woods explained previously. “Just with the rods and plates and screws that are in my leg, I needed something different, something that allowed me to be more stable. That’s what I’ve gone to.”

However, a more straightforward reason may underlie the apparent discord. Speculations suggest that Nike might be on the verge of shuttering its golf product division after four decades, potentially withdrawing its sponsorship of Woods as a result.

The company has already steered away from selling golf sports equipment since 2016, focusing solely on apparel for the past seven years. This strategic shift hints at a larger trend, with other Nike ambassadors like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Brooks Koepka possibly considering alternate sponsorships as Nike’s golf interests seem to dwindle.

The future of Woods’ long-standing alliance with Nike remains uncertain amid these rumblings of change within the brand’s golf division. As the golf legend navigates his comeback journey, the question lingers whether this iconic partnership will continue or reach an unexpected conclusion.
