The NFL has reportedly barred Eagles’ security chief Dom DiSandro from the sideline for the remainder of the regular season after an incident with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw led to his ejection from a recent game, according to sources familiar with the league’s decision.
Although he can travel with the team for their upcoming game against Seattle, DiSandro is not permitted on the sideline. However, sources indicate that he will be allowed to return to the sideline for the playoffs.
The altercation occurred during the Eagles’ game against the San Francisco 49ers on December 3, where DiSandro intervened in a situation involving Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith and Greenlaw. Greenlaw, penalized for unnecessary roughness during the play, confronted DiSandro, leading to his ejection from the game. DiSandro, amid the incident, was also instructed to leave and received applause from Eagles fans as he walked to the locker room.
In light of this, the NFL has reinforced its policy in a recent memo, specifying that non-player personnel are prohibited from engaging in physical contact, taunting, or directing insults toward opposing players or officials. The league emphasized that only game officials or coaches should intervene in such situations, warning that any violations could result in fines or suspensions.
Following a meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last week, DiSandro was barred from the sideline during the Eagles’ recent game against Dallas. Despite this setback, DiSandro remains a senior adviser to the Eagles’ general manager, overseeing all safety and security aspects related to players, coaches, and executives within the organization. With responsibilities spanning from managing security at the team’s training complex to ensuring safety during team travel, DiSandro also plays a role in educating the team on the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
