On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens suffered their first season loss when they were defeated by the Indianapolis Colts at home in overtime.
The Colts’ victory is all the more impressive given that Anthony Richardson, their starting quarterback, was absent.
All teams deal with injuries, so even though the Colts were without Richardson, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson used Twitter to justify the defeat by listing all of the injured Baltimore players.
Jackson completed 22 of his 31 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts defeat.
He also carried the ball 14 times for 101 yards.
The NFL is simply not the place for excuses, so it’s not the kind of response you want to see from a franchise quarterback in the first year of his sizable new contract.
For instance, the Arizona Cardinals, who acquired current starting quarterback Joshua Dobbs just two weeks before the start of the season, recently defeated the Dallas Cowboys, who were widely regarded as the league’s best team just days earlier.
The 2-1 Cleveland Browns will be the Ravens’ next opponent at 1 p.m. m. matchup on October 1st, Sunday.
The Ravens, Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers are currently 2-1 in the AFC North.
Jackson has completed 73 percent of his passes this season so far through three games for 608 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Additionally, he ran for 193 yards on 32 carries, adding two more touchdowns.
After what felt like years of negotiations, Jackson, a 26-year-old signal-caller out of the University of Louisville, agreed to a five-year, $260 million deal with the Ravens during the offseason.
The Ravens were the team that selected Jackson in the 2018 NFL Draft.
